The financial instruments we use are donations and so-called catalytic investments

Catalytic Investments lends to and invests in companies worldwide, with the primary goal to generate impact.

We invest in and lend money to initiatives that are scalable or replicable and inspirational, with the confidence that these initiatives will eventually lead to profitable businesses.

The capital invested is expected to be circular: At portfolio level, we aim to at least maintain our capital base to ensure it can support initiatives time and time again. If that is not the expectation, then a donation is more appropriate.

In 2021 Catalytic Investments invested an additional amount of EUR 5,6 million and generated 7 new clients.

TRMC manages three funds that work with catalytic investments, of which Triodos Sustainable Finance Foundation is the largest fund. You can read the Annual Report 2021  here.
