One of our secret weapons for sparking change is what we call “revolving money” or "catalytic investments". It might sound a bit technical, but the idea is simple: we put impact first, not financial return. By constantly reusing our funds for new, promising projects, we help maximise positive outcomes for both people and planet.

Request an investment of €0.5 to €3 million

Every investment must challenge the system and speed up transitions. We’re looking for scalable or replicable business models that can really shake things up and show the world a better way forward. We want to see at least two years of revenue and market results, as well as strong, complementary founders with proven experience. We love projects that work with other impact-focused financiers, and collaboration is always a plus.

Our approach is all about transformative impact, even if it means taking bold risks. We often support early-stage initiatives that haven’t yet attracted commercial funding, and we’re flexible in the kinds of financial tools we use. Like equity, debt, or more innovative instruments, depending on what suits your project best. We’re hands-on and actively engaged, working alongside you to help accelerate positive change.

We look for projects with a clear, purpose-driven vision for positive change. Typically, these initiatives:

Need between €0.5 and €3 million
Are led by experienced teams with proven ideas
Haven’t yet attracted commercial funding
Love working with like-minded co-investors
Are scalable or replicable
Have at least two years’ market traction
Operate in Western Europe
Focus on agri-food or nature restoration
Welcome active collaboration with front-running financiers

Nature & Biodiversity
Our focus on Nature & Biodiversity supports high-quality verification and validation in biodiversity restoration. We champion initiatives that protect and restore nature in a holistic manner, fostering resilient natural ecosystems. We also back efforts that enable biodiversity regeneration at scale, ensuring that nature can thrive for future generations.
Eco-friendly Farming
When it comes to Eco-friendly Farming, we aim to facilitate a transition to resilient farming practices that positively impact biodiversity, reduce pollution, and conserve resources. We support farms that actively sequester more carbon than they emit, contributing to a healthier environment for all.
Sustainable Food
We strive for greater transparency across food systems, working to expose all externalities and promote true pricing throughout value chains. We encourage a transition toward diverse, local, and seasonal diets, largely plant-based, but with room for modest amounts of animal protein. Our support extends to initiatives that educate consumers, fostering a reconnection between consumers and producers, empowering them to make conscious choices.

We use gift money (donations) to support projects that make a real difference. Sometimes, the impact isn’t easy to measure in euros, but that’s not the point. For us, it’s all about creating positive change for society. Through Triodos Foundation, we’re committed to helping where it matters most.

Request a donation of €5,000 to €20,000

You can apply for a contribution between €5,000 and €20,000, with the average grant size falling within this range. While the maximum project size we support is €300,000, our donations are mainly aimed at project finance (program financing is not always possible, given uncertain donation income).

We’re looking for pioneers who create sustainable impact with fresh ideas.
Focus on services, advocacy, empowerment/education, or research
We particularly welcome projects that strengthen civil society through non-profit services, lobbying, education, or research.
