The label is an initiative of the European federation of mortgage lenders and aims to make the mortgage market more sustainable. The goal is to align mortgages with the European Union's Green Deal, the roadmap to green the economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050 at the latest.
A mortgage can receive the label if a home meets or exceeds European legal requirements. It may also bear the label if there is an improvement in the energy performance of at least 30 percent.
Triodos Bank offers mortgages that encourage homeowners to make their homes more sustainable. The more energy-efficient a home is, the lower the interest rate. Triodos Bank, therefore, finds it only logical to join this initiative. Not only does it confirm that our mortgages are sustainable, it also allows us to share our best practices with other mortgage lenders in Europe.
Triodos Bank has a total of 2.7 billion in residential mortgages outstanding in the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain. Triodos Bank encourages homeowners to take energy-saving measures.
