Inclusive financial sector

Triodos Microfinance Fund offers investors the opportunity to actively contributing to the development of an inclusive financial sector in developing countries where the majority of people have access to financial services. Access to these services, ranging from loans and savings products to payment facilities and insurance, provides people with the opportunity to improve their living conditions. 

Sustainable approach

The fund provides loans and equity to microfinance institutions and banks in Asia, Africa and Latin America that demonstrate a sustainable approach towards providing financial services to underserved client groups. They have gone through the first phase of growth and are financially sustainable.

Financial profile

  • Low correlation with other assets classes
  • Diversification: portfolio is spread over a large number of microfinance institutions and bank in various countries and regions
  • Local currencies hedged through currency forward contracts if available. At least 40% of the portfolio will be either in hard currencies or hedged local currencies

Investment policy

  • Established microfinance institutions and banks with a proven track record (80%) and start-up microfinance institutions and banks (20%)
  • Geographic scope: Latin America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe
  • Expected allocation: equity (25-30%), quasi equity (10%), debt (50-60%) and liquidity (10%)
