Sustainable trade (Social)
Cooperative Cafe Cacao de Vavoua (COCCAV) is a cooperative of cocoa and coffee producers which began exporting cocoa in 2011 in Ivory Coast. Its member base has grown since inception, reaching 1,530 total farmers in 2015, most of them from the South-Western part of the country. In the last years, COCCAV has developed a strategy to export more certified cocoa beans to buyers in Europe, and has achieved Rainforest Alliance, Fair Trade, and UTZ certifications. The loan provided by the Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund is specifically financing certified cocoa exports, and enables COCCAV to pay the small-scale farmers fairly and immediately upon delivery of their harvest.

Smallholder farmers in developing countries do not necessarily reap the rewards of a complex international trade system. So, by financing fair trade enterprises we aim to make sure that individuals and their families are paid fairly for their products.
