Sustainable trade (Social)
Ma's Foods in Sri Lanka is a family-owned and -managed seller of coconut milk, spices and a variety of curry pastes. Its focus on food safety in combination with a strong vision on social and environmental impact has made Ma's an interesting supplier also for international traders. The company has established a transparent and traceable supply chain. Spices and coconuts are sourced from smallholderfarmers, as well as from Ma’s own model organic farm.
Ma’s coconut milk for the export market is certified organic and fair trade. This means that farmers will also receive the fair-trade premium on top of the premium for organic production. Ma’s also offers the farmers access to a personal insurance and healthcare.
The loan from Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund is used to pre-finance the sourcing, processing and storing until shipment of coconut milk.
