Sustainable trade (Social)
Prorganica was founded in 2005 with the aim to introduce organic agriculture to small-scale producers and to promote the export of these products on the international market. The company buys sunflower seed and rapeseed from around 250 small-scale farmers in the north of Paraguay, which are processed into organic sunflower oil and canola, and then sold on the local market and abroad.
Prorganica is deeply committed to organic production and processing. All production areal has organic certification. In addition, the company plays an important role in providing income to small-scale farmers by paying an organic premium.
Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund has provided trade finance to Prorganica to pay the farmers directly upon delivery of their harvest.

Smallholder farmers in developing countries do not necessarily reap the rewards of a complex international trade system. So, by financing fair trade enterprises we aim to make sure that individuals and their families are paid fairly for their products.
