Reaching 116,272 farmers worldwide
30-09-2011 | The Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund provides pre-export finance to sustainable agricultural companies in Africa, Latin America and Asia. The fund’s mission is to improve the lives of farmers and stimulate sustainable agriculture. The Impact Report 2010 is a first attempt to document the results of the fund in terms of realising its mission.
Some of the key stats:
- 116,272 smallholder farmers worldwide sold their harvest to organisations that benefitted from trade finance from the fund in 2010
- EUR 2 million premium (or uplift in income) was paid to farmers by selling their products to organisations financed by the fund in 2010
- 16.9 million malaria treatments can be produced from Artemisinin pre-financed by the fund in 2010
We have chosen to report in line with the IRIS reporting standard developed by the Global Impact Investing Network as well as to relate the fund’s objectives to the Millennium Development Goals. Reporting non-financial data is still a relatively new phenomenon in agricultural and other financing. It is an ongoing development in which we are active participants. Any questions? Send them to sustainabletrade@triodos.com .
