Microfinance
A sound investment in financial services for the working poor in developing countries
Microfinance aims to increase access to financial services and encourage entrepreneurship among the working poor in developing countries. At Triodos Investment Management, we’ve played a pioneering role in funding this fast growing sector since 1994.
Our funds were among the first to make significant equity investments in microfinance institutions, and over the years, we've built up a strong track record in financing well over 100 microfinance institutions in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Today, Triodos Investment Management has four microfinance funds, with over EUR 236 million under management.
In March 2009, we launched the Triodos SICAV II – Triodos Microfinance Fund to meet the need for new capital from existing microfinance partners as well as new partners. This Fund is open for institutional investors across Europe and Australia, and offers a combination of solid long term financial returns and significant social benefits.
