Sustainable investment universe

Eligible Companies

As part of our commitment to complete transparency, we provide a full list of companies selected for investment by Triodos SRI funds and Triodos Bank Private Banking.

Financial performance

The eligible companies have been selected on the basis of their sustainability performance. No financial analysis has been conducted. We strongly advise you to review the financial performance of companies before making any investments.

Eligible countries

Due to recent changes to our investment criteria, the investment opportunities in corporate bonds have decreased. These investment opportunities are also increasingly challenging due to the low liquidity of the bonds and high volatility of the capital markets. In order to safeguard a risk/return profile in line with market standards, the fund decided to change its former policy not to invest in sovereign bonds. Our intention is to keep the relative share of these investments as low as possible because these investments do not contribute to our investment goals to influence sustainability performance. Triodos Bank does not consider it feasible or desirable to engage with governments as an investor. The Triodos socially responsible investment products and services may invest in government bonds that meet our sustainability criteria. We only invest in government bonds issued by:

  • properly functioning democracies
  • countries not subject to United Nations sanctions
  • countries that subscribe to the main broadly supported United Nations conventions

In order to safeguard the risk/return profile of our products and services, Triodos Bank has also identified three general investment criteria. All countries eligible for investment need to have at least an AA- rating, EUR 150 billion federal debt outstanding and issue bonds in EUR or GBP as these two currencies represent the currencies of all Triodos Bank home markets. The asset manager will add a further financial analysis to the selection process and choose countries in line with the investment strategy relevant for each investment product. List of countries eligible for investment: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and United Kingdom.

Is the health care industry healthy?

Triodos Bank recently removed Johnson & Johnson and Quest Diagnostics from its Sustainable Investment Universe. There were too many breaches of legislation that when added up was reason enough to exclude these companies from further investments.
