SRI Strategy

A strategic approach to using money for positive change

At Triodos Bank, we take a 100% positive approach to the money our customers save and invest with us. We use it only to finance organisations working to build a sustainable future for individuals, the community and the environment.

Within our private banking activities, and also the Triodos SRI funds, we invest in stock market-listed companies. We consider only companies that clearly outperform others with regards to sustainability, in their respective sectors. In addition, they must comply with our strict minimum standards. To ensure all our requirements are met, we have our own sustainability research team, responsible for selecting companies for inclusion in the Triodos investment universe.

Companies are screened against a wide range of criteria. And, both during and after the selection process, the research team engages with them, encouraging them to improve their business practices. When such large companies start to move, even if it’s only a little bit at a time, the wider impact can be very significant.

Investing for a cleaner planet

For the Triodos Sustainable Investment funds and Private Banking we select companies under three ‘themes’ of sustainable products and services: ‘climate protection’, ‘clean planet’ and ‘healthy people’. A fourth category is ‘pioneers’ in corporate social responsibility (csr), companies that have outstanding sustainability performance in their sectors.
