Why was Triodos Bank founded?

During the 1960s and 70s, there was a growing understanding of the need for sustainable economic development, and specifically, awareness of the problems faced by ethical businesses dealing with conventional financial institutions.
So, in 1971, the Triodos Foundation was established by a small group of people to support innovative projects and companies. Proving its worth, this encouraged the bank’s founders to create a fully fledged sustainable bank.
