Nicaragua - Asociación Fondo de Desarrollo Local (FDL)
Asociación Fondo de Desarrollo Local (FDL) originates from the Universidad Centroamericana (UCA), a university of established repute founded by the Order of Jesuits with the mission to contribute to the development of Nicaragua. FDL makes a tangible contribution to this development by the innovative way it provides customer-made loans to farmers and very low-income groups. FDL carries out pioneering work in Latin America in the field of providing of rural credit. Gender and environmental aspects play an increasingly important role in FDL's credit policy. Being a non-regulated financial institution FDL is not allowed to attract savings. For that reason Triodos-Doen, in syndication with Hivos-Triodos Fund, has provided a loan in order to enable FDL to keep concentrated on its unique target group.
