Royal distinction for Peter Blom, Triodos Bank Chief Executive
19 May 2008 - Peter Blom, Triodos Bank Chief Executive, was nominated a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau during the celebration of his 25th anniversary on Friday 16 May last. Peter Blom received this honour from Mayor Janssen of the municipality of Zeist. Blom received this royal honour due to his many years of service at Triodos Bank and his dedication to ensure a sustainable society as well other reasons. Triodos Bank is a pioneer in the area of sustainable saving and investment schemes and is established in Zeist.
Peter Blom’s great commitment to ensure sustainable banking and to organic agriculture, microfinancing in developing countries, renewable energy and sustainable construction were the reasons for the distinction. These topics are now very current but when Peter Blom started to dedicate himself to them 25 years ago, they were far from the public eye.
Mayor Janssen: “Peter Blom has dedicated himself from his main position and based on his social ideals to what we can now call a sustainable society. He has won himself a place as an influential mouthpiece for necessary changes in society, nationally and internationally.”
Peter Blom (52) has dedicated himself to the Triodos Bank since the bank was established in 1980. Initially, as a volunteer and, since 1982, as an employee. He was appointed as the director under the articles of association on 1 January 1989. Peter Blom was then the youngest bank manger in the Netherlands. Since 1997, Blom has been the Chief Executive of the bank.
Peter Blom is co-founder of the Social Venture Network Europe, chairman of the Raad voor de Biologische Landbouw en Voeding (Bioraad; Council for Organic Agriculture and Diet) and a member of the Taskforce Multifunctionele Landbouw (Multifunctional Agricultural Taskforce) set up by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
