Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund
Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund offers innovative trade finance loans that assist organic and fair trade producers in accessing the markets of Europe and the United States.
Organic and fair trade exporters in developing countries and Eastern Europe generally lack access to adequate finance. This is a major problem, particularly in harvest time. If farmers cannot receive payment for their produce they are often forced to sell at a discount to local middlemen. This represents a real bottleneck on the growth of organic and fair trade projects and prevents farmers from increasing their level of income.
The trade finance offered by Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund is an accessible and efficient instrument tuned to the needs of agricultural exports. The fund offers fair conditions and fast application handling.
Trade finance is based on a certain percentage of the export contracts of, for example, coffee, tea, bananas, cotton, herbs and spices. The export contracts need to be with importers to be approved by Triodos.
Organisations that want to apply for trade finance must be registered with the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation International (FLO International) or engaged in certified organic production.
