Microfinance

Through the management of specialised microfinance investment funds Triodos Bank has been a pioneering provider of capital to the microfinance sector since 1994. The funds have financed well over 100 microfinance institutions, working in 38 countries in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. They hold equity stakes in 18 prominent microfinance institutions. As at 31 December 2008 the total assets under management amounts to EUR 156.3 million.

Triodos Bank strongly believes that professional provision of financial services in developing countries, in particular to micro entrepreneurs, is crucial for the development of a local economy. It enables businesses to grow, to generate income and to create jobs. Professional microfinance, therefore, has significant impact on the reduction of poverty.
